Memories of Barcelona Spain, this really has been one of my favorite cities. From the Barcelona Seaside, Food, Culture, friendly people, artwork and vibrancy – it’s just plain Amazing.
The Barcelona subway and tram covers everywhere and is very easy to use. We stayed in an amazing building, called Walden 7, the most beautiful Airbnb to date. The building was designed by the famous architect Ricardo Bofill. The only negative were the windows, the way they are designed, they provide no breeze and there was no AC – so unbearably hot.
You must go see the most incredible church La Sagrada. It is really an architectural marvel. It is currently and still under renovation and the inside is not a spectacular as the exterior but still amazing. Barcelona is full of beautiful architecture – most of it by Antoni Gaudi. Again most of the beauty is the exteriors but the interiors are worth checking out as well, especially if they have a nighttime event. My favorite is Casa Batllo.
Beyond the Barcelona architecture and the long, stunning Playa de la Barceloneta beach is the food. Tapas are what you want and everyplace has something just a bit different. Be sure to eat at La Cova Fumada & Bodega La Riera (see review below, it’s not on TripAdvisor).
Went to a Flamenco Dance Performance at Palacio Del Flamenco, it was a bit touristy but still we really enjoyed it. The passion in the dance and the musicians is wonderful. If you have time the Barcelona Picasso Museum is world class. And while not “world class” the Barcelona Chocolate Museum is an interesting way to spend an hour while wandering the streets.
Finally – DON’T BE “THAT” TOURIST… Barcelona is overrun by tourists and is currently in an anti-tourism champagne. The locals are fed up with the long lines, stupid people and the junk gift shops taking over the city. A lot of the negativity comes from the idiots that bypass the true Barcelona and just stand in line, rushing from one “attraction” to the other on the bus tour. Stop, slow down, eat in a local’s place, say hello in Spanish, be kind and get to know the real Barcelona. Trust me it’s far more interesting then getting a selfie in front of Park Güell.
TripAdvisor Reviews:
La Cova Fumada
Also Bodega La Riera: Breakfast in a local hang out Bodega La Riera – white anchovies marinated in olive oil garlic vinegar and some Manxec cheese with their homemade white wine Vermut. Plus Butifarra a homemade Catalan Sausage made of raw pork & spices (red w/Blood- white w/o – I liked the Blood sausage best) all was excellent & amazing. It’s a good day…
